Research Areas

Data Centers
The Terrestrial Information Systems Laboratory supports three data archive centers, NASA's LAADS DAAC (Level-1 and Atmosphere Archive & Distribution System Distributed Active Archive Center), GES DISC (Goddard Earth Science Data and Information Services Center), and OB.DAAC (Ocean Biology Distributed Active Archive Center).

Data Processing
The Terrestrial Information Systems Laboratory supports four data processing systems including PPS (Precipitation Processing System), ACPS (Atmosphere Composition Processing System), MODAPS (MODIS Adaptive Processing System) and LAND SIPS (Land Science Investigator-led Processing System), and AOS SDS (Atmosphere Observing System Science Data Segment).

Applications and Algorithms
The Terrestrial Information Systems Laboratory supports multiple applications and algorithm programs and projects that support data access to benefit people and make data accessible to traditional and non-traditional users. Projects include Land Climate Data Record/Surface Reflectance, Geolocation, LANCE and FIRMS, Agriculture and Flood Mapping, and night time lights (black marble) imagery.
